4 Ideas for Sales Contests (SDR Edition)

There’s no better way than a sales contest to light a fire under you team and get them to book more meetings. Here are 3 ideas for sales contests to use with your team:

  1. Create a Bingo Card

Create a list of some common (and some less common) occurrences on cold calls. Plug them into a bingo card and create a reward for the first few team members that successfully complete the bingo card. Here are a few ideas on what to include:

  • 2 demos booked in a day

  • Someone hangs up on you immediately

  • Demo booked with a VP-level prospect

  • A prospect tells you to “send you an email”

  • A prospect opens your email more than 5 times in a day

The key here is to have a variety of different topics. Anything to encourage reps to complete more activities will fit well into the card.

Try to develop a few more!

2. Sales Poker

When an SDR meets a specific target (# of cold calls, conversations, rejections, talk time, meetings, etc.) they get a playing card. At the end of the day, the rep with the best poker hand wins a prize.

This is an easy contest to get up and running quickly.

By customizing the targets to align with your business goals, you can keep reps engaged and driven to reach their activity/meeting metrics.

3. Create a March Madness Bracket

If you’re a basketball fan you know how competitive March Madness gets. This is the same energy that you can replicate on your sales team.

Create a bracket with reps challenging each other 1-on-1 and develop a point system on how they will be scored. Consider adding several factors that contribute to the point system. 1 point for every call that’s made, 10 points for every meeting that is booked, etc.

Additionally, be sure to create several other ways to win so if a rep is eliminated in the first round, they are still motivated to call. You could add a secondary tournament, give a prize for most total calls, give a prize for most rejections, etc. Anything to keep reps engaged.

This format works even better if you have several regional teams that can challenge each other. You’ll start to see reps sharing more tips and collaborating.

4. Create a Raffle

Another idea for a sales contest is to create a raffle for your team. Team members collect tickets by achieving certain activity marks.

  • 1 ticket for every 10 calls

  • 2 tickets for every rejection

  • 10 tickets for every meeting

  • And so on

This helps to ensure that all types of activities are rewarded, even if they don’t necessarily result in a meeting.

Just be sure to make the prize something interesting that all of your reps would enjoy!

Prizes

Here are a few ideas for prizes:

  • An extra PTO day

  • An extra item for their work-from-home set-up

  • An extra work-from-home day (if a hybrid role)

  • Gift card

  • Double commission

  • Airpods

Better yet, ask your team what prizes they’d be interested in! The more they care about the prize, the more motivated they will be. Happy hunting!
